Lumens Series
Artist Statement
In these lumen prints, I explore flowers and leaves through simplicity, light and form. By isolating each botanical subject and allowing open space to become part of the composition, familiar plants are transformed into quiet, minimalist abstractions.
I create the images by placing plant material directly onto photographic paper and exposing it to sunlight. Light, time, chemistry and the moisture within each plant determine the final image. Delicate outlines, translucent surfaces and intricate veins emerge in warm, unexpected tones. The process includes an element of chance that I welcome.
I often work with fogged photographic paper that can no longer be used for traditional printing. Giving this discarded material a second life reflects the transformation within the images themselves. Each print becomes a record of both the plant and the fleeting encounter between nature, light and time.
