Barbara Beck is a photographer based in the rural foothills of San Diego County, working across historical photographic and material-based processes. Her work centers on memory, family narrative, and time's presence in our lives. She frequently works in cyanotype and platinum-palladium processes, often incorporating botanical and coastal elements. She extends the image through stitching, hand coloring, textiles, and encaustic wax, creating dimensional, hand-worked pieces. Her recent projects have evolved into a personal visual language that transforms photographs into layered forms. Through her revision of the original image, the work reflects the ways memory is created, altered, and reshaped over time.Drawing on personal history, she considers how experience is carried forward through the objects we keep and the stories we inherit. Rooted in lived experience, her practice creates space for inward reflection. My goal as a photographer is to bring memories and life experiences into my photographic images. I work to create a unique depth in my work that encourages personal reflection and provides the viewer with a connection to the image.Barbara is currently exhibiting at the North Coastal Art Gallery in Carlsbad, California, and The Photographer's Eye: A Creative Collective in Escondido, California. She is a founding member of True North Photographic Society.
